Update: Crisis in Haiti as Gangs Take Over
In October of 2022, after gangs moved into the village of Minoterie, Real Love Haiti Ministries International faced a heartbreaking decision: In order to protect the orphans and staff under our care we were forced to leave in the middle of the night with only the clothes on our back. The next day, the gangs and took over the entire town, killing many and driving out the rest of the peaceful residents. Our once-thriving ministry, which had been a cornerstone of hope and support for the local community, was forced to flee abruptly, taking little more than the essentials.
Our journey took several months and was fraught with uncertainty as we moved multiple times, seeking safety from the escalating violence. Finally, we found refuge in the remote village near the safety of the Dominican Republic border. There, the ministry began to rebuild, continuing our mission of providing love and stability amidst the chaos, holding on to hope despite the profound challenges and the loss of our beloved home in Minoterie.
We have since committed to embracing our new reality with a sense of purpose, trusting that our relocation is part of God’s plan. We have named Our new location the “Mountain Campus,” while still envisioning a future when we can someday reclaim our former home in Minoterie, now the “Coastal Campus,” so it can once again serve as a beacon of hope to the village. As we settle into the mountains, the ministry remains deeply committed to caring for the orphans in our charge while expanding our mission to include serving widows and addressing critical medical needs of our new home and its surrounding villages.
The ministry has since identified several pressing needs essential to establishing stability and continuing their vital work. These include:
- Acquiring freezer and kitchen appliances ($1,600)
- Covering rent for the children’s home and transition house due in November 2024 ($4,000)
- Constructing a dining shelter ($4,755)
- Painting the ministry and residential houses ($1,346)
- Securing additional beds and mattresses ($3,000).
The ministry invites prayer and support from faithful partners, believing that God will provide the resources needed to rebuild and grow. Through the generosity of ministry partners like you, Real Love Haiti Ministries International is determined to continue our impactful work, bringing hope and the love of Jesus to the vulnerable in their care and the broader community we now call home.
Looking to the future, the ministry plans to develop a school, medical clinic, church, and expand our children’s home in the mountain campus. Visionary partners like you are invited to join our capital campaign to expand the reach of Jesus in Haiti.
